'Family curses don't exist. Sure, some families seem to suffer more pain than others, but a curse? An actual curse? I don't think so.'
A family tragedy was the catalyst for Ian Perkins to return to the isolated cottage with his wife and young son. But now they are back, it seems yet more grief might befall the family.

There is still time to act, but that means Ian must face the uncomfortable truth about his past. And in doing so, he must uncover the truth behind the supposed family curse.
So what can I say about this book.
When Ian and Rachel decide to move back to Ian's family home it was a real hard decision to do as both of them loved where they lived. But of course it was Ian's choice to find out why everyone was scared of that cottage and didn't want to visit anyone including his fathers  mother and his fathers brother who have turned there back on Ian's father.
So when the worst thing happen to Rachel and Ian when they move into the cottage. Ian's decides to focus on the one thing everyone is scared of this so called curse and not the tragedy. His focus is on the curse and not on Rachel. He spends all his time in the study studying his family tree.

So to find out the truth about the curse wakes Ian up to what's happened in his family and what it means to him or anyone in his family and nothing can be done to lift the curse. There is always going to be a reminder for him when he looks out of his window and sees that tree!.

I did enjoy this book and the way the author wrote it. I did get a bit confused halfway through and had to go back a few pages and re-read them to help me understand it more.
I also enjoyed how he told Ian's family life and how his father orchestrated it that Ian went to college and not be stuck on farm with Ian's oldest brother Stuart.
I found the ending really heart breaking but I think it was a good way for the book to end. Really shocked me that Ian believed that he has actually spoken to his grandmother.
